Dancing in 2016

There are a lot of fond memories wrapped up in my documentary photography between 2011-2016. Wally Sparks is one of my favorite DJs and I love the way he appreciates the culture of playing music that moves people. These are images I recorded when he commissioned me to document a “House Party” concept he was piloting. A really legendary day that started with a meal at the old Mr Everything and progressed to 9th Wonder spinning later that evening, Fort Knox on stage Fort Knoxing, Young Guru throwing up the Roc Sign, my 16 year old brother getting into a dance battle…. I guess 2016 was as magical as they say.

I appreciate my time documenting events because I see how people used to look outside; HAPPY, engaged and in sync. Even with a camera or to in the building the primary objective was to have a great time and be seen doing that. Tomorrow during Castleberry Hill Art Stroll, Mr. Sparks is stopping by the garage in the back of Old Rabbit Gallery, where my exhibit is on view. Another thing I appreciate about Wally is the taste level he brings to a room, those vibing to a Wally Sparks set, know what good music is and that vibe carries throughout the space. I’m not saying you going be break dancing like in these photos, but it’s certainly worth the visit. So be sure to stop by and catch a rare Friday set, from a Dirty South living legend, 7PM-11Pm
