This is my 4th trip to the continent and while In Lagos, I will create a series of images that examine parallels associated with how Africans and Africans in America choose to protect ourselves and our existence in the world daily. Utilizing a multimedia approach I want to explore how we can stay protected, how we have always protected ourselves historically and reflect on how much any of it will matter as we continue to evolve in this ever changing world.
I will be studying Nigerian values, aesthetics and art making techniques to produce these conceptual protection pieces in the form of writings, paintings and films. If the future is a destination for African people I believe we will only arrive there by protecting our identity and everything that makes us who we are by any means available.
